Remembering September 11

To commemorate September 11, FeatherHeart is offering this lovely piece in red, white and blue feathers with a spray of sparkle in the center. Approximately 2 1/2 inches, and placed on a small alligator clip, it's perfect for your hair, your hat or your lapel. Priced at only $15, proceeds of sales of this piece will be donated to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

This caring organization was founded in 1980 to provide support and assistance to the families of fallen and wounded Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations forces, which include (but not limited to) Army Rangers and Special Forces (Green Berets), Navy SEALs, Air Force Combat Controllers and Special Tactics, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, and Marine Corps special operations personnel.    www.specialops.org

This special piece is a small tribute to the men and women who allow us to enjoy freedom every day.

Available now as well as at the upcoming Art: Sunny Side Up event on Sept 11 at the Deerfield Beach Hilton.

Elizabeth & Marcos

The wedding of Elizabeth and Marcos was a very personal, intimate event taking place at the Florida Keys and I knew she would be dressing without help from anyone. So, her bridal headpiece was made on a comb with a padded base and the veiling was sewn into the base. The final had a loop at each end of the veil's sides for easy placement with a pin.

She decided to wear the headpiece toward the back away from her face and not even the strong breeze at the Keys ruffled the feathers of this romance!

The love birds :-)

Wedding Bells

I love weddings, especially someone else's! I get the pleasure of making the bride gloriously happy, with none of the additional stress that she'll be exposed to. I also enjoy the fact that the piece I make for her will lessen that stress. After all, a beautiful headpiece enhancement to her wedding dress is something she won't have to WORRY about. :-)
Here are the 2 latest bridals from FeatherHeart. Both were made specifically for these lovely ladies' dresses and venues.
Leaves in silver and crystals were incorporated to echo the leaf pattern in the bride's dress.

A quarter shows the size.

Melissa chose a flower style piece with crystals to match the lovely bling in her dress. There was a lot of subtle motion in the crystals which were wired and floated above the feather flower.

Thoughts on Quality vs Pricing

You know, sometimes I see work using materials similar to mine and I wonder, “How can they sell that so inexpensively”? I admit that sometimes I get frustrated and question my pricing. Am I overpricing my work?

Then, I look closely at some of those pieces and when I really scrutinize the workmanship, I see the gaps and the type of finishing I would never accept in a piece that represents my own brand. At times, I feel that people won’t tell or care about the difference, that they will be satisfied with less than the best possible quality in order to pay a few dollars less. I get set to follow this line of thinking but then, I snap out of it. You see, I wouldn’t personally make a purchase based on this, so I don’t want to create a client following who thinks that way.

Style is timeless.

Quality workmanship plus versatility equals style.

I’ve always been a bit of a perfectionist in my craft, whether it’s the design of a publication, for which I’ve won several awards, to the hand sewn bow on a fashion headband. You see, I want my work to be not just liked, but treasured, and become part of my customer’s favorites things for years to come.

In these challenging economic times, it makes sense to shop for pieces that will stand the test of time.

Coco knew what she was talking about.

Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel said it best, “Fashion passes, style remains.” I want my work to stay because of its quality, because of its style.

FeatherHeart gives bark, I mean, BACK! :-)

Most of you know Joey, my pal, whom I met at the TriCounty Humane Society, a wonderful, no kill shelter in Boca Raton, Florida -  http://www.tricountyhumane.org/

Joey suggested I put my money where my mouth is and so, we joined the volunteer branch of the shelter. A super group of people organized by Jannice Olson. Paws for the Cause is the name of the group and I urge you to join them at http://www.pawstricounty.com/ - They have great events in the Broward county area on Tuesday evenings.

Here's the information on the next event.

(Royal Palm Place)

The events are held outdoors weather permitting. In that case, your well-behaved pet (under 50 lbs) is welcome to come along and keep you in line. :-)

There will be items to be raffled off including these 2 beauties from FeatherHeart, one on a stretch headband and one on a small alligator clip. One for you, one for your pet. And, guess what? They're interchangeable! It's a Win-Win!

Come by and join us for all the fun! Arf!

FeatherHeart in NYC!

It's been a few days since FeatherHeart landed in the city that never sleeps. It's been great talking to Julie at BrowNY, Int'l  http://www.brownyintl.com/ about the synergy between us!

All we need now is some cooperation from Mother Nature in the way of milder weather. BrowNY will hold a special event in early February to bring those shoppers into the store and given the chance, I know they will fall in LOVE with FeatherHeart!

Some of the pieces at BrowNY are very affordable, including a line of stretch bands, ranging in price from $22 to $30. The "doubles" are in blue, green and white so far, but, plans are for red and black as well. The headbands can be worn conventionally in your head - you can either show the band or hide it under your hair - or, you can wear them on a hat and use them as the hat band.

Then, there's this beauty! This steampunk piece has double-duty hardware on the back, so it can be worn in your hair or pinned to your clothes or hat.

Let's hope for warmer weather and hot sales!

FeatherHeart Announces Love Me. Love My Dog brand

We love our dogs! I know I love my pooch Joey. As I socialized with other dog owners (we prefer "parents"), I saw I was not the only one who enjoyed caring for and sometimes indulging my charge. At the suggestion of one of my fellow pet parents, I started making smaller, lighter versions of my feather accessories for pets.

I wanted to maintain the high quality of the pieces I made for people and make them ultra comfy and easy to wear for the obvious reasons. Some pets were virtual fashion plates! It was so much fun making these pieces, and seeing how much the pets enjoyed all the attention!

When I realized the parents were not to be left behind, I was struck by an idea: To make companion pieces for both parent and pooch. And so, Love Me. Love My Dog was born.

As pets become an integral part in our lives, they are happily included in our special occasions.
Now a welcome member of your wedding party, your pet should dress accordingly. The Love Me. Love My Dog line includes companion accessories that are a reflection of the bride's headpiece. Whether a male or female, your pet will be a reflection of your good taste as you embark on your new life.
