Dec'd out and Driven

Dateline: Wednesday, December 15, 2010

Get Fabulous with FeatherHeart Hair Fashions Tonight on Deco Drive... Let us tickle your fancy at 7:30pm.

It was really wonderful to do this shoot. Shireen advised me to get girls that had experience modeling. After being an art director for more years than I'm willing to admit, I new she was right. The girls - 3 from the Academy of Glam (www.academyofglam.com) models: Shawn Sullivan (a beautiful pin-up looking redhead), Christy Hord (a willowy blond with Heather Graham looks) and Nikita Turk (a delicate ebony beauty with killer eyes), came through by some hard work on the part of dear Susan DeGregory. Also from the Academy, was Daniela Vieira, the wonderful stylist who made sure that not a hair was out of place. Sandra Carolina Hidalgo (a Latina hottie with devastating cheekbones  - and incredibly fit at that) was the fourth model, a connection through Lulu Cosmetics, (www.lulucosmetics.com), a brand that she has come to personify. My other Lulu Cosmetics connection was the make-up master, E. Pierre Pope, who made sure all my worry lines were magically erased, at least for a while. :-) Photographer Angel Rivera snapped pics as things were happening.

Shireen put everyone at ease with her playful (but professional) personality (she's soooo gorgeous), but I admit I was very nervous, trying to run through all the details in my mind. Most of the designs you will see during the segment are available through my online shop. Sometimes, I'm not as judicious as I should be when it comes to photographing and uploading my work. I need an assistant! :-) But, you can always just call me. I would love to hear from you.

If you are not in the south Florida area, don't despair! I ship wherever you are!

As with any positive thing, don't keep it to yourself, but spread it like wildfire!

And remember: FeatherHeart brings you cutting edge design destined to become your wardrobe's timeless classic.

FeatherHeart will be exhibiting 3 new designs at the prestigious Florida Craftsmen Gallery in St. Petersburg, Florida. The exhibit, Out of the Closet: Art to Wear, is co sponsored by IKEA and the International Academy of Design and Technology in Tampa, Florida.
The construction highlights the beauty of the canopy bases from coconut palms. The material is cleaned, treated and shaped into stunning shapes and integrated with feathers and crystals to form eye catching fashion cocktail hats.

Making Autistic Strides event

The turnout was great at last Sunday's (October 24) event to benefit Making Autistic Strides, an autism awareness organization based in Coral Springs, Florida - http://www.makingautisticstrides.com/. The event was held at Sara Mique salon in Coconut Creek. There was great shopping, nibbles and raffles to raise funds for the cause.
FeatherHeart donated a super chic cocktail hat in the colors of the organization's logo. Here, the lovely Paloma Kukar models the hat.
Haley Moss, 16-year-old artist and spokesperson for the cause, was there signing copies of her book, Middle School: The Stuff Nobody Tells You About. What an amazing young woman! What an amazing afternoon!

Neman Marcus event

So, last Saturday, I had lunch with Judith, Glam-a-thon leader extraordinaire, and then, on to Neiman Marcus to take a peek at their Fall Trunk show at the Galleria Mall. Ken Downing, the fashion director for NM introduced some power looks that included the direction for Fall 2010: Coral and purple color combo, pearls and feathers. Well, I did pretty well, specially since I had no clue! Judith and I drooooooled over some of the fabulous looks. Judith wanted to thank Shireen Sandoval from Deco Drive for her participation during the Glam-a-thon's W Hotel event and give her some photos and an official Glam-a-thon t-shirt. Here I am with Shireen - she is such a beauty, and nice! - working 3 out of the 4 components for Fall: feathers, pearls and the color coral. No purple on that day! :-)

FeatherHeart at the Lipstick Lounge!

It was decidedly PINK - with some added red from FeatherHeart - on Thursday, October 7 at the W Hotel on Ft. Lauderdale beach! The energy was flowing, the divas were diva-ing and students from the Art Institute put on an amazing fashion show. It was all under the watchful sharp-heeled stiletto of our fabulous blond Lipstick Lounge head diva, Judith Honorowski. The Glam-a-thon is not over yet, but this evening put another sparkling rhinestone on the crown of this fantastic event. Next, we'll be off to Timpano's on Thursday, October 14 for some serious Sassy Stilettos bonding and then, finally, next Saturday for the Glam Strut downtown Ft. Lauderdale. The cause is in our crosshairs: Kiss Breast Cancer Goodbye!

Melissa featured on Etsy!

Etsy regularly features products to convey a certain mood or season. Recently, the Melissa piece from FeatherHeart was chosen for its gallery.

The Melissa was created for Melissa, art director at PGA South Florida for her wedding in early 2010. Melissa came into the studio with her beautiful dress and a photo of the flower bouquet she would be carrying on her special day. The naturally beautiful cockatoo feathers were a lovely match for the dress. They were paired with a handmade flower in pink to echo the colors in her bouquet. A pearl spray, crystals and delicate strands of moss green ostrich feathers completed the look. Melissa chose to have her custom headpiece on a comfortable wire comb. The groom wore a buttoneer handmade from the same elements: silky pink flower, cockatoo and ostrich feathers.

The Melissa is available on Etsy.

The new site is up!

From Friday evening until Sunday night (Sept 10-13), my friend Laine (web dude) and I went back and forth with emails and the viewing of my site update in progress. And, now it's up! There's even a little tune playing in the background, Cesaria Evora, the Barefoot Diva from Capo Verde. The lovely lady is Patricia, whom I met at a doggie event. I felt that photo embodies everything FeatherHeart is about: beautiful sophistication, but playful as well. I welcome your feedback!

Blue Polly goes flying around

Marcela DiSanto told me she was going do a little traveling, so Blue Polly said she'd like to come along. I can't wait to see ALL the pics. But, in the meantime, Marcela placed 2 of them on FB. Adorable! She went to Fashion Night Out at Bal Harbour, and pictures for Marc Jacobs perfume, Bang were being taken, and BANG! there she is! It's a stunning piece of work! And, Polly looks pretty cute, too! :-) Blue Polly is available for $45 and it looks fabulous for a non traditional look at a wedding can be paired with a veil or, dare we say it, a bird cage! :-) www.featherheartdesignsbydannielle.com

A magnet for trouble

Lately, I seem to thrive on stress and I don't particularly like it. However, I see design obstacles as challenges to be overcome. So, when my ex sis in law (great lady) fell in love with my feather designs (good taste, she has) she also unknowingly threw down the gaunlet and said she wanted a pin for her to wear that had a magnet rather than a pin so it wouldn't pierce her clothes! So, off I go! I'm almost done and will post as soon as it's completed. So, I decided to forgo this magnet thing and placed a lapel pin/alligator clip combo on the back instead.
